A searchable product catalogue for an industrial supplier
Replacing a PDF catalogue with structured product pages, filtering and quote requests routed to sales.
This is a concept study. It demonstrates how we would approach this kind of project. It is not a client project, the business described is illustrative, and no results are claimed.
- Sector
- Manufacturing and B2B supply
- Services involved
- Website development, SEO, CRM integration
Project overview
A study of how a mid-sized supplier with several hundred products could move from a downloadable PDF catalogue to a website that buyers, distributors and specifiers can search, compare and request quotes from.
Business challenge
What is getting in the way
- Buyers need specifications, dimensions and documentation before they will make contact.
- A PDF catalogue is hard to search, quickly out of date and invisible to search engines.
- The sales team spends time answering the same specification questions repeatedly.
Objectives
What the work needs to achieve
- Make every product findable on the site and in search results
- Give buyers what they need to shortlist products without calling
- Turn product interest into structured quote requests the sales team can act on
Our approach
How we would tackle it
- Model products as structured data, with attributes buyers actually filter by
- Design category and product templates around specification-led decisions
- Build a quote basket so buyers can request pricing for several products at once
- Route requests to the CRM with product details attached
Design and technical implementation
Design
- Dense but calm product listing with filters that update results instantly
- Product pages led by a specification table, downloads and related products
- A quote request flow that asks only for what sales needs to respond
Technical
- Headless CMS with a product schema the team can maintain without developers
- Static generation for fast pages, with incremental updates when products change
- Product structured data and clean URLs for each category and product
- Quote requests delivered to the CRM through its API, with email fallback
Deliverables
What would be handed over
- Information architecture and product data model
- Category, product and quote request templates
- CMS configuration and editor guide
- CRM integration and tracking plan
